::EmJay:: Freebie!

I NEVER EVER Blog, EVER.... I use this for New Releases, announcements and such. I pretty much figure I never really have much to say.

Until now.

My MeMaw has always been the most important female figure in my life. She has been my rock, my parent, my best friend, my world.

Never have I had more admiration for a woman in all my life. She is someone who survived Polio, lived for years with Psorosis of the liver, survived Renal Cancer and all the while raising five kids, nurturing 8 grand kids and being an amazing wife.

In August of 1998, she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. I remember the day, sitting in the waiting room of the hospital in a little ball in the corner. I was the only grandchild there, pretty much cause my dad knew if he didn't take me out of school and take me with him I would hitchhike the 5 hours to my Grandmothers.

We had driven up a few days before, making sure we spent some time with MeMaw before her surgery. I remember the night before, it was almost 3 am, and I went outside for a cigarette unable to sleep (Yes I smoked at 15 sue me :P). MeMaw came out and sat with me on her swing. She lived in the middle of nowhere and it was pitch black outside, she sat there with me in silence for 45 minutes. I knew she was scared, she hadn't shown any emotion at all since she had found out about the cancer. That wasn't her way... she didn't cry, she didn't complain. MeMaw was strong, but in that 45 minutes I knew she was scared.

I will never forget those 45 minutes I shared with her, I will never forget the strength she had through everything and I will never forget the small "Thank You" she gave me when I first saw her after her surgery. We both knew what it was for.

It's been 11 years since she went into remission. Since then, I have been lucky to be able to give MeMaw her first (and only) great grandchild. I hope, that one day my daughter will show the same strength my MeMaw has.... I can only be so lucky.
